Ingredients
1/2cup green gram (soaked)
Water (as needed)
1/2tsp turmeric powder
1/2tsp salt
1tbsp ghee
2tsp oil
1tsp cumin seeds
1/4tsp asafoetida powder
2 onion (finely chopped)
3green chilli (slit)
1tsp ginger garlic (crushed)
3 tomato (chopped)
1/4tsp turmeric powder
2tsp red chilli powder
1tsp coriander powder
1tsp salt
1/2tsp garam masala
Coriander leaves (chopped)
Instructions
Prep Work

Soak green gram
Soak the green gram overnight in enough water

Chop vegetablesChop onions, tomatoes and slit green chillies

Crush aromaticsCrush the ginger and garlic together
Method

Pressure cook green gram
Add soaked green gram to a pressure cooker with water, turmeric and salt, cook for 2 whistles on medium flame

Heat fatsHeat ghee and oil in a pan, add cumin seeds and asafoetida and let them splutter

Saute onionsAdd onions, green chillies and curry leaves, cook until onions turn golden

Add ginger garlicAdd crushed ginger garlic and cook until the raw smell goes away

Cook tomatoesAdd tomatoes and cook until soft and mushy

Add spicesAdd turmeric, red chilli powder, coriander powder and salt, mix and cook for 3 minutes

Add green gramAdd cooked green gram along with some water and mix well

Finish with garam masalaAdd garam masala and let it simmer for about 5 minutes

Garnish and serveAdd coriander leaves and serve hot with a little ghee on top
